Spotting early warning signs could save you money, prevent bigger issues, and keep your home safe and comfortable through the winter.

Here are nine things to look out for and get fixed before the colder months arrive. It’s important that you’re especially vigilant after strong winds, heavy rain, or hail; inspect your roof (safely from the ground) for any signs of loose material or damage.

Missing or damaged tiles

High winds and heavy rain can loosen or crack roof tiles. If you notice broken, slipped, or missing tiles, arrange a repair quickly to prevent leaks.

Moss and algae growth

While moss may seem harmless, it retains moisture that can cause tiles to lift and allow water in. Excess moss growth is a warning that your roof needs cleaning and possibly repair.

Leaks in the loft

Installation needs to be done professionally - a leak underneath a green roof is a far bigger headache than on a standard flat roof.
