Stamel Electrics are your local, professional, friendly electricians based in Sandhurst and servicing Surrey, Hampshire, and Berkshire.
Stamel Electrics take great pride in our work, offering the highest levels in support and service at some of the most competitive prices in the area. We acknowledge that every client, from the smallest residential contract to the largest multi-site operation has different needs and requirements, therefore, we approach every individual job the same way….by sitting down and going over your individual requirements, ahead of devising a specifically tailored solution for you. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail - even down to the screws we use. We always throw away the plugs and fixings that come free with lights etc and use high quality Fischer wall plugs. Anything fitted externally will use Stainless Steel screws, so you won’t see any running rust marks from our work.
We have your safety and convenience as our foremost concerns. All Consumer Units we fit are Surge Protected and have individual RCBOs (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection) so in the event of an issue, you won’t lose the power in half of your house, only the circuit with the fault.
We pride ourselves in only fitting accessories in your home that we would also fit in ours. If I wouldn’t have it, then neither should you.

Heating hasn’t worked properly since 1988!

- Not much to see here, but the homeowner bought the property in 1988 and could never just have the heating to run on its own. It always heated up water first and the water flowed oddly through the radiators. It’s been like that for 37 years! Until today when we rewired it. It has cost lots of money over the years in unnecessary fuel costs. The look on his face when the boiler fired up with only the heating on was priceless. It had been wired up incorrectly when originally installed and been that way ever since.

- Homeowner has paid a small fortune trying to get his heating to work properly over the years. Many plumbers and electricians have been there replacing heating controllers and valve heads when there was no need. We spent 2.5 hours there rewiring it, spotted the original error and corrected it. The owner always presumed it prioritised hot water first before the radiators warmed up. That didn’t sound right to me. A couple of hours, a proper wiring centre, some cable and it worked correctly for the first time ever.

- Separate lights and motion sensors fitted. I find these are much more reliable, have a significantly longer lifespan me are much easier to maintain. Fancy a brighter spotlight - just change the light. Want Cool White instead of Warm White - just change the light. Motion sensor no longer working - unclip it and fit a new head, they only push on, don’t even need a screwdriver. Although in the years since I’ve been fitting these systems I’ve never had a sensor or spotlight fail. The LED spotlights take so little power, that the PIR is operating significantly below its design parameters.
-
Image
2
- The motion sensor works with both floodlights so if you trigger the PIR then both lights come on together.
-
Image
3
- What was fitted originally was a single large floodlight with in built PIR that no longer worked. It was wired using internal Twin and Earth cabling that had deteriorated due to UV from sunlight and was hanging from the wall. This was removed and 4 core Hi Tuff cable used instead allowing future expansion for extra lights or motion sensors.

- There were twin spotlights with built in PIR here originally. The client wants to illuminate a path that has a gate below the light. Decided that twin LED spotlights on an angled bracket that allows you to aim the lights in different directions would be most appropriate. Again, separate motion sensor that should last for many years.

- This is a small alleyway to a door between the house and the garage. There was a twin spotlight with built in PIR, now swapped out for a separate motion sensor and lantern.

- Before: loose cables all over the garage. Old wire fuse box was above the open door inside the Utility room not accessible to anyone without a step ladder.

- Before: Live terminals not enclosed.

5
- After: Fuseboard relocated to Garage and at a height that is more manageable for shorter people. The trunking was removed on the first day, but the elderly homeowner realised she used it to hold onto when she went inside so we fitted a hand rail for her to use instead.
-
Image
6
- After: Single socket and extension lead removed and double socket fitted in its place.
-
Image
7
- After: cable for centre light now tacked along the wooden support. Metal cable clips used to prevent cable collapse in case of fire. The lights and diffuser were cleaned up and some new starters installed. They are now much brighter and switch on a lot faster.
-
Image
8
- After: Old Halogen light with no front glass removed and replaced with LED spotlight and PIR motion Sensor.
-
Image
9
- After: new cable run in conduit. The old light were plugged into sockets using twin and earth cable. This was removed and replaced with a 3 Gang light switch with a key lock for the front security light to prevent accidental switch off.

- Client wanted to illuminate the rear of the house, but didn’t want lights that were too powerful so we fitted a single motion sensor in the centre of the building and added 2 x 10 Watt LED spaced 2 metres in. This gives a good spread of light without being overpowering.
-

- February 2024. New Consumer Unit fitted. The house is a multi occupancy HMO, the law requires all sockets in these properties to have Arc Fault Detection Devices for full protection. The AFDDs are the breakers with the Status LEDs.
-
Image
3
- Security lighting for a block of flats. The light over the door and the inner foyer is on during darkness so you can see the entrance. The floodlights are activated by motion sensors.
-
Image
4
- The whole car park is illuminated by lower powered spotlights but more of them that are spread out so as not to irritate the neighbours.
-
Image
5
- BEFORE: client had a plumber out as her heating wasn’t working properly and this is what he did. And it still didn’t work properly.
-
Image
6
- AFTER: this is how it looked afterwards and her heating issues were cured. Heating electrics can be quirky depending on what system you have so you have to be sure to match the electrics to the plumbing. Where ever possible, we always wire up your heating electrics with a view to making your boiler last longer.

- Front lights work together either via motion sensor or with a switch in the hallway. Originally the only light was the one facing you as you walked to the front door, but it was thought that an extra light near the door would be needed to better illuminate the door.
-
Image
8
- Very discreet motion sensor. It only triggers if you walk up the path to the door, not nuisance triggering if you are only walking past.
-
Image
9
- Bathroom downlights. All fire and IP rated with a Fire Rated extractor vent and loft extractor that is nearly silent - you can hear the sound of the air, but not the fan. We only fit one type of fan and downlights. They are top quality and have excellent performance, reliabilty and warranties.
-
Image
10
- Hallway was a non uniform shape, so downlight placement is important to eliminate shadowing.
-
Image
11
- The boiler vent was too close to where a motion sensor light was needed, so we mounted the light where it was needed and put the motion sensor a few metres away by the patio doors so it picks you up whichever door you walk out from.
-
Image
12
- Motion sensor is mounted a few metres from the light it is controlling, other wise the heat from the boiler vent steam would create nuisance triggers.
-
Image
13
- 3 side lights and 2 PIRs work together, so whichever way you walk down the side, one of the sensors picks you up and illuminates all 3 lights and the whole rear of the property.
-
Image
14
- Side light and PIR. It is possible to add override switches to make the lights more controllable if required.
-
Image
15
- I have to confess, I don’t like multiple security lights with inbuilt PIRs that trigger individually if you are trying to light up a larger area. This is why we always fit separate motion sensors and lights. They are significantly more reliable, infinitely more expandable and flexible and you can choose lights that you like the look of without needing to worry whether it has a PIR or not. Also it is easy to add override switches if you want to switch them on manually. The rear of this property is around 15 metres in length, but all the lights come on together.
-
Image
16
- Final touch decorative switches and sockets. The switch positions correspond to the positions of the lights they are controlling. This is in the hallway and the porch and front door are to your right as you look at the switch. Furthest light = furthest switch so from right to left they go - Front Lights, Porch, Hallway. All the cable drops have been run in plastic conduit so in case any cables need to be replaced at any time in the future, they can simply be pulled through from the loft.
-
Image
17
- During the Rewire -when the initial switches and sockets were fitted, they were done with cheap white plastic and used removable plastic stand offs that keep them around 30mm from the wall, but are firmly secured so you can continue to use them. It also allows the plasterer and decorator to work around the rear of the switch in order to get the best possible finish. It means that they are plastered and painted to the rear back box and it doesn’t matter if they get dirty. When the decoration is finished, remove the plastic standoffs and fit the final switches without getting plaster or paint on them and the final finish is significantly better.

19
- Never forget the Smoke Alarms. I only ever fit these as they are reliable, easily replaced and easily tested. I have these fitted in my own home. I have one rule - that I wouldn’t fit anything in your home that I wouldn’t have in mine. The smoke alarms, downlights and extractor fans are the same as I have where I live.

- Consumer unit was re-sited from its original place near the ceiling in the kitchen to the hallway cupboard. The board is populated with RCDs built into each circuit breaker for ultimate convenience. Surge Protection is added to all Consumer Units that we fit.
-
Image
21
- Got to hide those hideous wires. This was done as part of a Rewire of the property during which the Consumer Unit was moved from its original place (which was inaccessible) and moved to an internal cupboard where it is better available for shorter people.
