Institution of Engineering and Technology
Founded 140 years ago, the IET is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community. The IET has more than 150,000 members in 127 countries, with active networks of members in 37 countries. To support its worldwide membership it has offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.
Encouraging the study of engineering
As part of its charitable remit, the IET encourages the study of engineering and technology. In the UK, the Institution publishes Flipside, a teen science, engineering and technology magazine, the only one of its type available for teenagers. The IET Faraday website, an award-winning educational resource, reaches all schools in the UK with the aim of enthusing young people about science, technology and engineering. This year as part of the IET’s programme of activities for 5 to 19 year olds, 180 secondary schools took part in the Faraday Engineering Challenge Days.
