"To be clear, the joiners were are very skilled at what they do and I cannot fault the work in removing rot and damage to my window frame. However, not long after receiving my quote I was broken into through the window in question. When the time came around for my work to be done, my partner who was alone at home was "double checked with" and it was decided that part of our windows would be sealed shut, after being told it would be more secure. Our quote was not amended to reflect the unfinished work inline with our quote and we were charged the full amount. We were also told we would also have to pay extra in order to have our original quote met. I feel we were taken advantage of, so I simply cannot recommend."
Trader reply: "Firstly, thank you for the commendation of the work we completed for you. However, we were disappointed to read your review as it does not fairly explain the facts. In summary, we adhered to the specific instructions from the only person authorised to sign off the contract. You were broken into so we attended on the day we were told about it, to secure the windows for you, free of charge. We then brought your job forwards in our very busy schedule to help you. We came out to complete the work within a month of you accepting the quote, when usually our lead time is 3 - 6 months. Your partner was the person who paid the invoices and was the authorised signatory for the work. In fact, she was the only person we ever saw at the property including when we came to complete the installation. In view of the break-in, which happened after the contract had been agreed, it would have been remiss and unprofessional of us not to have checked with her whether the windows were to be fitted so they opened as per the contract or were they to be fixed, as your view of security may have changed. She told us to fix them so that they wouldn't open. As this was a change to the contract, we took her instructions - we do not make decisions on behalf of customers - and having received clear instructions from the person in authority, we fixed the windows. Your partner, the authorised signatory under the contract, signed the paperwork to say she was satisfied with the work and would, therefore, pay the final invoice. Once you arrived home, you contacted us to insist that the windows were made to open. Of course, we could do so and that would clearly now be a new contract which would attract a charge due to the amount of work and time that would be required. This did not please you and, though we were under no obligation to do so, as a gesture of goodwill, we discounted the price of the work. "They made the process really easy, and the workmen were incredibly efficient and hard working. We're amazed with the result. We did consider replacing the windows with uPVC and we're so pleased we didn't. The wooden replacements keep the character of the property and are excellent quality. "We have used this company twice due to their professionalism and amazing finish. You get what you pay for. We live in a Conservative area and they installed beautiful mock-sash, timber windows to the front of our house (although their sliding sash was even more beautiful and I regret not getting that!) They added added extra details and the joiners were incredible, punctual and really tidy. It transformed the look of the whole cottage and restored it back to how it would have been. I have just today received a full refund within just a few hours from this company as we have had to cancel a second job, regretfully due to our own personal finances caused by the lockdown. They are very kind, professional people and refunded us within 3 hours of the call without any qualms. They are probably the best in Manchester and we would not hesitate to use them again.
