"TMC was contracted to extend garage, lay foundation, install electrical outlets, move boiler and put down roof on the whole length of garage. TMC failed to advise about local council requirements for building control and laid the foundation and new walls without Council building control seeing the foundation depth or DPC. The roof was laid without proper support. It leaked with the first rain so badly that I had to put buckets under the multiple holes. TMC did visit to correct leaks, but it didn't work and it leaked again on next rain. Electrical work had to be corrected by qualified electrician. When we contacted Council Building Control to come and see work performed, the visiting surveyors didn't understand that this was completed work that's how bad it was. Building Control entered report of 'unsatisfactory' work and required us to expose foundation and completely re-do the roof. We do not know how much more it is going to cost to correct everything that TMC didn't do properly"Trader reply: "This customer wanted to get the job done for as little as possible, we extended a discount to the client of £1000. During the course of the job they requested quite a few additions which meant an increase in the price and we continued. I made them aware of the roofing material to be used and that it was at the lower end of the pricing spectrum, they agreed. There was no correction of the electrical work, another member of my team returned and issued an electrical installation certificate which we issue at the end, likewise we issued a gas safe certificate for the additional works they requested to have the boiler and cylinder moved to the garage. The roof did leak soon after. However, we returned the following day and corrected the fault, we also installed extra electrical sockets and replaced a lead mains pipe total additional cost £250, which we were not paid for. The customer was verbally advised about building control of which they chose not to pursue as the works were very minor and not in addition to the main dwelling. I have no previous negative feedback; this is the first and I hope the last. The customer still owes the final payment of £4430 + VAT which is still outstanding, this amounts to approximately 40% of the total job."
