Welcome to Andrew Smith The Carpenter (Formerly known as Smudge Creation).

My name is Andrew Smith and I have been interested in carpentry, designing and creating bespoke furniture and working with wood since I was a very young child. One of my earliest memories is of a toolbox received one Christmas from my Grandfather with Handy Andy stencilled on the side.

I qualified for my City & Guilds in carpentry in 1990 and also did a City & Guilds in interior design in 2000. I worked making radiator covers and joinery for my family's firm until 2003 when I became self employed. I joined the Guild of Master Craftsmen in 2008.

I'd like to think that I specialise in fitted furniture and storage solutions such as wardrobes, alcove shelving, cupboards as well as bespoke furniture. Please look at the photos on my website and if you can't see anything resembling the idea you have in mind, then please contact me and I'm sure we'll be able to work together and succeed at creating your imagined item to your exact specification.

I also carry out all other kinds of carpentry work such as door hanging, decks, flooring, skirtings etc.

    "We have used Andy for a few different projects now and we couldn’t be happier with the work he has done. He added some drawers to wardrobes in two bedrooms he built a few years earlier, fitted some shelves and built a new media unit with a hidden desk in our living room. As always, Andy’s communication was fantastic as was his attention to detail and desire to get it right for us.
