Rob - Image 1 "I used Acute Roofing Ltd for a bay window flat roof and masonry repair/decoration. Their quote promised to “thoroughly sand down all external surfaces... to create a smooth and suitable base” and “fill any minor imperfections”. The masonry finish was shockingly poor... some cement slapped on and then painted over (see photos). I paid based on a photo the trader sent, but upon visiting the site days later, I found the angle, shade, and scaffolding poles cleverly obscured the unfinished areas. The trader promised to return and finish the job properly but then ghosted me. The scaffolding was up for 4 weeks, and the trader tried to have it removed. However, I called the scaffolding company who were very understanding and left it up for another week so I could get someone else to finish the work to a high standard. This cost me £1,000 to rectify his substandard workmanship, breach of contract, and zero integrity. Avoid this company!"

Trader reply: "Thank you for your review, we are sorry that you feel dissatisfied with the outcome of the works. However, we feel it is important to clarify a few points. The primary scope of this project was the bay window flat roof replacement, which was completed successfully, and no concerns were raised regarding the roofing works themselves. Acute Roofing Ltd specialises in roofing, and before any masonry repairs were undertaken, it was explained that we are not specialist masonry contractors. We advised that if a higher-specification masonry finish was required, a dedicated masonry professional would need to carry out those works at an additional cost. This option was discussed but was not proceeded with. The photographs provided during the project were taken to show progress and completion of the agreed works. At the time, you were satisfied enough with the works to make payment. It is therefore disappointing to see suggestions that photographs were intentionally taken to mislead, as this was never the case. It is also worth noting that an outstanding balance remains on the contract, as we had agreed to return at a later date to carry out some additional internal painting works as a goodwill gesture. We can only hope that the money withheld helped contribute towards the specialist masonry contractor you later instructed. Had the recommendation to use a dedicated masonry specialist been accepted from the outset, this situation could likely have been avoided. Nevertheless, we thank you for your feedback, wish you all the best for the future, and are pleased that the roofing works were completed successfully."
