Five Aspects Of Plastering That Any Good Plasterer Should Know

Plastering or dry walling your home can be a mess. If you have never done this type of work before, it can be twice as costly to do it yourself if you have to hire someone to fix your mistakes. Dry walling or plastering rooms is not something that everyone can accomplish.

Five advantages of outsourcing your plastering job include the following:

1.  Hiring a professional gets you a professional job. If you want the job to look like it has been finished by someone who knows what they are doing, and not a rank amateur, then hire a professional. Although many people enjoy “do it yourself” projects in the house, this is one messy job in which it pays to get a professional.  Amateurs often leave the walls looking uneven and with grooves. A professional will give you a smooth wall.

2.  It will save you time. This is especially important if you are working on a project in the home in which you are living. A plastering job can take quite a long time, depending on the size of the room. If you are finishing a basement, for example, it could take weeks to complete. In the meantime, all that dust is accumulating in your home every time you work. It is messy and could be dangerous.

3.  The health issue. Plaster dust can be toxic upon inhalation. In order to do a proper job, the walls must be sanded smooth after plastering. Even if drywall boards are used, the walls still have to be sanded smooth. This creates a lot of dust in the air that can be harmful for family members to breathe in over and over. If you hire a professional to do the job, you can take the family out for the day and come back to have the job completed. Plastering will take some time and cannot be done in a short amount of time because the plaster or drywall tape has to dry, but he sanding aspect can be completed in one day.

4.  Tools. Do you have all of the tools it takes to do a professional plastering job?  It will probably cost you more to rent the tools than it will to hire someone to do the job. There are a variety of tools needed for the job and are not limited to power sanders, trowels, and ladders. Most of the people who plaster use a product that is similar to stilts to maneuver around the house easier and get the ceilings, without having to use a ladder. They are very adept at walking on these contraptions; you will have to use a ladder.

5.  Cost. When you add up the amount of supplies, the time that you will invest and the tools that you will need, you will see that it is easier to just hire someone to do the job. Unlike many other tradesmen, plasterers are not usually union people and are willing to work inexpensively, especially on a side job. You can find people who will not only know what they are doing when it comes to plastering and dry walling, but also those who will charge reasonable rates for the work.

Although you may consider yourself to be a handy sort of person and want to be able to make home improvements on your own, plastering or dry walling is one job that you are far better off outsourcing. So contact your plastering professional today!
