Sequence of activities of kitchen fitters

Kitchen fitters are plumbers who install pipes in a new kitchen that is being remodeled as well as all appliances. The first thing that kitchen fitters do is to install all of the pipe work that will be needed in the kitchen.

New pipes

If the house is a brand new house, the kitchen fitters will go in to the house after the carpentry crew has framed out the house. They will follow a blueprint drawing of the house to install the correct pipes. They need to be licensed plumbers so that understand the basic concepts of pipes and how to install water and sewer pipes.   In a brand new house, the kitchen fitters will work not just in the kitchen, but in the bathrooms as well, installing all of the pipes throughout the house.

In most municipalities, any time you remodel your home, you are required to get a building permit. This is to insure that all of the codes are being met. This is particularly important when it comes to kitchen fitters who will be working with both the water and sewer pipes. The building inspector will have to inspect the job of the plumbers to make sure they are up to code.

Kitchen remodeling

If you are just having your kitchen remodeled, the kitchen fitters, or plumbers, will not be installing new pipes. In this case, they will remove the sink, unhook the refrigerator if it is connected to an ice making machine, and disconnect the dishwasher. These appliances will most likely be replaced.

A kitchen fitter will be able to install a new sink for your kitchen and also install the new faucet. They should have basic plumbing knowledge. Most people who work as kitchen fitters are plumbers. To become a plumber, you have to go to trade school, or you can apprentice and learn on the job. If your state is a right to work state, there is probably not a strong union so you do not have to worry about getting a union card. If not, you had better get a card to be able to practice your trade.

In addition to installing sinks, a kitchen fitter will also be able to install a garbage disposal, automatic ice maker in your refrigerator as well as a dishwasher. Most likely, anything that has to do with water, kitchen fitters can handle.

New house

In a brand new house, the kitchen fitters will go in twice. The first time they will “rough out” the plumbing. The second time they will come in to install the sinks, tubs, toilets, faucets, dishwasher, garbage disposal and prepare the hook up for the refrigerator, if one is not included with the house. If a refrigerator is included with the house, the kitchen fitters will also hook up the refrigerator.

Remodeling

Those who are planning to remodel their kitchen can work on it themselves if they have a basic knowledge of plumbing and can install a faucet and a sink. Do not just hire any kitchen fitters to work on this type of job. Make sure that your kitchen fitters are experienced and well trained.
